Meditation 101: The 5 Minute Routine That Can Change Your Life

We live in a busy world. Somewhere amongst the busyness of life, we lose sight of self-care. We tend to put other people, deadlines, and obligations before our personal health and happiness.

If you want to live a life full of peace and happiness, then you have to incorporate mediation as a form of self-care in your life. The good news you can create a healthy self-care routine by incorporating meditation techniques that only require less than 5 minutes of your time (anyone can spare 5 minutes, right?) Here’s what to do…

Focus on your breathing

Find a comfortable position and be still. Be present and gain focus. Relax your body and focus on your breathing pattern. As you inhale deeply, feel the air come through your nostrils and fill your lungs. If your mind wanders off to other things, direct your attention back to breathing.

Stay Relaxed

Another important part of meditation is staying relaxed. That means unclenching your jaw and fists. Let your eyelids drift off and relax your shoulders as you inhale. Feel the air reach your lungs and keep your feet planted on the ground for balance. If you’re advanced and able, try the lotus position! Remember to stay focused on your breathing. Don’t let intrusive thoughts throw off your 5 minutes of peace.

Be Mindful

Throughout your meditation session, you might be distracted by bodily functions or wandering thoughts. Gently remind yourself to refocus. Be sure that you are present by eliminate distractions (noise, turning phone off, shutting door etc.). Meditation is a great way to relax your mind and body for a few moments.

Finding 5 minutes to meditate each day can have a tremendous impact on your health and happiness. You’ll notice increased focus and concentration. Over time, mindful meditation can relief stress and reduce anxiety.

Why not give it a try today?!
